Pet ID tags–the one accessory no dog or cat should be without at all times. Why? Because if the unthinkable were to happen and your pet was to get lost, it is their ticket home.

If you think your dog is safe inside your house or fenced yard, or because they are always leashed, think again–dogs can run out the front door, or escape from a yard because they get curious, or are bored, or scared by a loud noise. The same goes for indoor cats. And if your pet gets lost and is found by someone, the best way for them to know that the pet belongs to someone, and how to contact the owner, is if the pet is wearing a pet ID tag.

Getting your pet microchipped is advisable, but your pet needs to be taken to a place like a shelter or veterinarian's office to be scanned in order to identify you as the owner. Anyone, even someone who doesn't know about pet microchips, can read a pet tag.
